As dominant as Jimmy Graham has been this season, his bad foot and tough matchup are enough reasons to remove him from the top spot on Athlon Sports' fantasy football Week 11 tight end rankings, at least for this week. Rob Gronkowski isn't exactly 100 percent healthy, but he is coming off of a bye and in his last game caught nine passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Graham still leads the NFL in touchdown catches (10) and is dominating his peers when it comes to on-field production and fantasy points, but the plantar fasciitis he is battling in his foot continues to limit his snaps, and he has a difficult test ahead of him in San Francisco's athletic, physical linebackers and secondary. Gronk and the Patriots take on Carolina, who has a pretty nasty defense of its own, but from a fantasy perspective the Panthers have been more generous to tight ends than the 49ers.
These aren't the only two tight ends worth paying attention to either, as Denver's Julius Thomas has somewhat quietly put together an impressive breakout season. Thomas is second only to Graham in both touchdown catches (9) and fantasy points, as Peyton Manning's big, athletic target has scored in all but one game so far. The Broncos host undefeated Kansas City, and as impressive as the Chiefs' defense has been this season, the only top-flight tight end it has faced is Cleveland's Jordan Cameron. And when it comes to comparing the Browns' offense to the Broncos' attack, it's pretty obvious that Thomas has a much more dangerous and productive supporting cast to help draw attention and coverage away from him. This should be an interesting game-within-the-game to watch Sunday night.
Each week during the NFL season, we will rank enough players at each position to appease everyone from those in 8-team leagues to 16-team leagues, those that can start two QBs, two TEs, three RBs and four WRs. We cut out the rest, because if you're looking at who the 50th-best running back or the 17th-best kicker is for that week, you need more help than any website can give you.
