Adams Returns to Practice, Nears Return to Lineup
Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams returned to practice on Wednesday, his first official on-the-field work since suffering a toe injury during the fourth quarter of the Sept. 26 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Afterward, he sounded optimistic that he was on the right track toward playing in Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
“Just the feedback I get from the docs,” Adams said of what needs to happen between now and the game. “I feel good. I know you guys got a chance to see a little bit today. I feel like I’m in a spot where I can make that call for myself. But I’ve got to collab(orate) with them and see how they’re feeling and look at it one more time and then we’ll make that call.”
Coach Matt LaFleur, who put the team through a walk-through practice that didn’t even include helmets, said Adams’ status is day to day.
“When he’s ready to go, we’ll be ecstatic,” he said.
Adams says the tore remains sore but he’s able to push off and accelerate, unlike previous weeks. He’s hopeful he can return and play like normal – not only physically but mentally.
“Maybe for a few weeks, I’ll be thinking about it a little bit,” he said. “But it’s not going to be something that will change the way I play. Obviously, I’ve been going for a month with a torn-up toe now, so you get used to walking a certain way and all that. So, there’s a few things you’ve got to break but that’s not really too important for me. Because I feel like I can tap in and get mentally focused and be OK that way.”
While Adams jogged through some routes at Friday’s practice, he officially did not participate and was inactive for the fourth consecutive game on Sunday night at Kansas City. He was listed as limited participation on Wednesday, one of a whopping 22 players on the injury report.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers (knee), running back Aaron Jones (shoulder) and tight end Jimmy Graham were among the players doing rehab work during the portion of practice that was open to reporters. Officially, they were listed as limited participation. Rodgers has been battling his knee since the Dallas game; Jones played through the injury against the Chiefs and won NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Wednesday.
