NFL Makes Big Announcement on Houston Texans Star

The Houston Texans boasted one of the NFL's top offenses in 2023 and the attack only became more lethal with the offseason addition of running back Joe Mixon. The Texan's Week 1 showdown against the Indianapolis Colts marked Mixon's franchise debut and it's safe to say that the veteran runner didn't disappoint.

Mixon was the league's most productive Week 1 rusher, turning an NFL-leading 30 carries into 159 rushing yards with a touchdown. He also caught all three of his receptions for 19 more yards, cementing his integral role in the Texan's 29-27 victory over the rival Colts.

As a result of his performance, the NFL has officially named Mixon as the Week 1 Offensive Player of the Week. It's the fourth time that the Oakley, California native has received the honor since being drafted 48th overall in 2017.

It's hard to imagine Mixon having a better Texans debut than the one he had. It was the fifth time in the former Oklahoma Sooners' eight-year career that he hit the 150-yard mark, most recently doing so when he rushed for 153 against the Carolina Panthers back in November 2022.

No matter how hard the Colts tried, there was simply no stopping Mixon at Lucas Oil Stadium. The 28-year-old running back didn't even need any massive plays to increase his yardage total as his longest run of the week was just 11 yards.

Mixon helped increase the Texan's lead over the Colts to nine with a three-yard TD during the fourth quarter, which gave them enough of a cushion to seal the victory.

Time will tell what Mixon has in store when the Texans host the Chicago Bears for their home opener in Week 2. The Bears struggled to limit Tennessee Titans RB Tony Pollard during last week's 27-24 victory, allowing the veteran runner to amass 82 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.
