Jimmy Garoppolo has always been praised for being a team-first quarterback. However, a report indicates otherwise. In fact, it's quite the contrary.
Last week, trusted NFL insider Mike Silver reported that Garoppolo has a tendency of vanishing during the offseason. He specifically distanced himself from the 49ers after signing his massive contract with the team back in 2018.
"Report: Jimmy Garoppolo repeatedly ignored coaches after the #49ers made him the highest paid QB in NFL history," said Dov Kleiman.
NFL insider Chris Simms added to Silver's report this Thursday. After speaking with coaches and players, Simms is hearing similar things about Garoppolo.
"I've heard this from players, ex-coaches there. He goes off radar all the time," said Simms. "Nobody can get in contact with him. They had to drive to his house and knock on his door 'Hello? are you alive??'"
It's hard to believe an NFL franchise quarterback would simply disappear from his team during the offseason. But it's sounding more and more like Jimmy Garoppolo did just that.
The good news for the 49ers is moving on. Trey Lance will start for the NFC West franchise this upcoming season.
