Jeff Saturday Makes Official Decision On Matt Ryan's Role With The Colts

ESPN's Jeff Saturday

Newly-hired interim head coach Jeff Saturday just made his first major decision as leader of the Indianapolis Colts.

Jeff Saturday, hired earlier this week following the Colts' decision to fire Frank Reich, is reportedly bringing one of Indianapolis' veterans back into the fold in Week 10.

Featured in a Pro Football Talk article this morning, the Colts' interim coach announced in a Friday press conference that quarterback Matt Ryan will be active this weekend for the first time since being benched for Sam Ehlinger.

"Matt Ryan will be active Sunday, Shaquille Leonard won't play," Pro Football Talk posted Friday afternoon.

Indianapolis shocked the NFL world when they decided to bench Ryan following his poor performance against the Tennessee Titans in Week 7.

For most NFL teams, benching a starting quarterback would be the biggest storyline of the season. When referencing the Colts, however, Ryan's demotion pales in comparison to their recent, highly-criticized hire of interim coach Jeff Saturday.

While Ryan is expected to suit up for his first game in nearly three weeks, Saturday stated that the veteran will serve as Sam Ehlinger's direct backup against the Raiders.

Coinciding with Matt Ryan's active status this Sunday, Jeff Saturday also noted that Nick Foles will be inactive this week after serving as the team's primary backup during Ryan's two-game absence.

Colts' linebacker Darius Leonard won't play Sunday against the Raiders, either, as he's dealing with ankle and back injuries.

The Colts, 3-5-1, will look to snap a three-game losing skid in Jeff Saturday's first NFL coaching appearance this Sunday against Las Vegas.
