Late Thursday night, the San Francisco 49ers acquired Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers.
It's an all-in move by the NFC West franchise, which is confident its roster is good enough to compete for the Lombardi Trophy at season's end.
However, the 49ers aren't just planning on keeping McCaffrey around for a year or two.
San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch revealed this Friday afternoon that the team plans on keeping McCaffrey beyond a one-year rental.
Kyle Shanahan repeats what John Lynch said about Christian McCaffrey: "It's not just a one-year rental."
It appears the 49ers have completed their foundation. They're built well in the trenches and now have elite players at wide receiver and running back.
The key for the Niners is overall health. When healthy, San Francisco is the most physically imposing team in the NFL. But injuries have become a major obstacle in past years, including this season already.
Hopefully McCaffrey and Co. can stay healthy. If they do, the rest of the NFC is in trouble.
