Multi-Game Suspension Coming For Chiefs WR Rashee Rice?
The offseason for Kansas City Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice has been tumultuous at best. With eight felony charges pending following a multi-car accident in Dallas where Rice left the scene, followed up by an altercation at a nightclub just a few weeks later, the former SMU Mustang could miss multiple games this season.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes that it will be a pretty harsh punishment.
“Most people I’ve talked to around the league believe that he will get a multi-game suspension at some point given all that’s gone down,” Fowler stated. “This is a lengthy legal process, which means he could start the season, actually play games or finish the whole year, because the league likes to see the full scope of things before they make a decision on how many games a player might face.”
The Chiefs' front office is very aware that they might lose Rice for multiple games this season. With that in mind, they stocked up on receivers - signing both Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Mecole Hardman - and drafted Xavier Worthy from Texas.
They are clearly adding pieces in case it happens. The Chiefs don’t want anything to disrupt their quest for NFL immortality and a third straight Super Bowl championship.
Last year, Rice led all Kansas City wideouts with 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. The Chiefs hope that the additions they’ve made in Brown, Hardman and Worthy can not only replace those numbers, but add to them.
“He was an active participant in the Chiefs’ offseason spring workouts. I was told that was a safe haven for him. After all that he’s dealing with off the field, it was a relief for him to be on it,” Fowler said. “He was considered a consummate teammate while he was there. And now the Chiefs wait on a potential NFL suspension.”
From what we’ve seen from the Chiefs, they are already prepared for the suspension. Come hell or high water, Kansas City isn’t going to let anything derail their quest for a third straight championship.
