Patrick Mahomes' Savage Message to Isaiah Likely After Final Play in Chiefs-Ravens

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs picked up right where they left off last season with a Week 1 27-20 win against the Baltimore Ravens on NFL opening night.

The game came down to the final play as Lamar Jackson drove the Ravens to the Kansas City 10-yard line. With four seconds left, Jackson threw the ball to a well-covered Isaiah Likely in the back of the endzone. Likely caught the ball, but landed with his toe just touching the white out-of-bounds line. After review, the play was ruled incomplete, and the game was over.

In a postgame press conference, Mahomes discussed the final play and added insult to injury with some savage advice to Likely.

"You just gotta wear white cleats next time," Mahomes said. "That's my advice for him."

Likely decided to wear black cleats for his 2024 debut, which made it that much easier to see that his toe was on the white out-of-bounds line. With white cleats, it would have been more difficult to tell.

Mahomes ended the game with 20 completions for 291 yards, a touchdown and an interception. His new weapon, rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy, showed exactly why the Chiefs drafted him in the first round by scoring a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown.

After winning the last two Super Bowls, Mahomes and Kansas City are aiming to complete the first-ever three-peat in NFL history. They are off to a good start but have a long way to go.
