Melvin Gordon's tenure with the Denver Broncos came crashing down Sunday, as the two-time Pro Bowler committed a key fumble. His poor performance stood out in a 22-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
General manager George Paton had seen enough of Gordon, and opted to cut him amid a season with five fumbles and just two touchdowns scored.
It was to be expected that Gordon would say farewell to Broncos fans, as he was in the midst of his third season with the franchise, but the manner in which he did so was curious. We'll post Gordon's Instagram story below and let you decide.
While commendable for Gordon to show off a sense of humor during a career lowlight, it is noteworthy that he apparently felt an acrimonious relationship with fans.
Broncos fans caught Gordon closer to the tail end of his career, following an accomplished run with the Los Angeles Chargers. However, the Broncos didn't exactly break the bank for Gordon, and the veteran running back still combined for 20 total touchdowns between the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Should any contending teams feel they can reverse Gordon's misfortunes, they'll have the opportunity to pick up an eight-year vet ahead of a postseason run. Per Spotrac, any team claiming Gordon off waivers will be on the hook for his remaining 2022 salary.
