Could a veteran quarterback be on the move ahead of the NFL's trade deadline?
On Monday Colts head coach Frank Reich announced Matt Ryan is heading to the bench. He threw two picks in a loss to the Titans on Sunday.
It's a pretty stunning development. Indianapolis replaced Carson Wentz with Ryan during the off-season.
Now, fans are starting to wonder if the Colts will try and move Ryan to a quarterback-needy team.
"Is there a team that would, could, or should trade for Matt Ryan?" said Mike Florio of Pro Football talk.
Believe it or not, the San Francisco 49ers are getting mentioned as a potential landing spot.
Jimmy Garoppolo is injury-prone and the Niners don't want this season to go down the drain if he goes down with another setback. Acquiring Ryan as a backup isn't a terrible idea.
"The 49ers," one fan suggested.
"His 'Best Fit' at this Point is 49ers..As Jimmy G’s Backup! 9ers are in 'Win-Now' mode, yet Jimmy G is Injury-Prone!! Matt Knows Kyle Shanahan and System Very Well! If Jimmy goes out maybe 9ers keep the season rolling! Matty as a Starter (??) Nahhh," another fan wrote.
If Matt Ryan is now riding the bench the Colts might as well trade him, right?
