Mike McCarthy Announces Significant Wednesday Update On Dak Prescott

NFL Picks: Dak Prescott

Don't expect to see Cooper Rush make his 6th consecutive start Sunday against the Lions.

As the Cowboys prepare to take on Detroit in Week 7, coach Mike McCarthy announced today that Dak Prescott has been medically cleared to play.

In addition, McCarthy expects Prescott to throw 40-50 balls in practice today and participate in game-like situations.

"Dak Prescott (thumb fracture) has been cleared medically to play according to #Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy. Tomorrow expect him to throw 40-50 balls at practice," Jane Slater reported Wednesday.

While the original tweet from Slater says Prescott will practice tomorrow, the NFL Network reporter followed up with an additional tweet that confirms the quarterback is expected to participate today, as well.

"*today he will throw 40-50 balls and participate in a mock game," Slater replied to her original post.

Prescott has been sidelined with a thumb fracture since Dallas' Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers.

While backup Cooper Rush has done an admirable job filling in for Prescott - winning four of his five starts - it was clear in the Cowboys' 26-17 loss to Philadelphia last week that Rush has clear limitations. He completed just 18 of 38 passes against the Eagles and threw three costly interceptions.

Barring any setbacks, Prescott has a friendly matchup this week with a Lions' defense allowing 34 points per game.
