Giants Superstar Dexter Lawrence Receives Major Accolade in Injury-Shortened Season
New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is the lone remnant from the infamous Odell Beckham Jr., and there’s an argument to be made that he’s emerged as the best player from that deal.
Beckham secured his only three Pro Bowls in his first three years with the Giants. In Year 6, Lawrence has officially matched that mark.
On Thursday, Lawrence was named a Pro Bowl starter for the NFC.
It’s the third year in a row Lawrence has earned this accolade, the first of which will likely not be accompanied by an All-Pro selection.
That’s a testament to his health, though, and not his performance. Few, if any, defensive tackles matched Lawrence’s impact in 2024. His ability to consistently win as a pass rusher from the nose tackle spot is second to none. To do so while also being one of the best run defenders in the sport makes him one of the game’s best players, regardless of position.
If not for an elbow injury that has held him out since Thanksgiving, there’s a real shot he would have remained a contender for Defensive Player of the Year. Recovering from that injury will likely prevent Lawrence from participating in the Pro Bowl, played on Feb. 2.
Lawrence finished his year with a career-high nine sacks in 12 games. He also set a career-best mark in tackles for loss (eight) while forcing a fumble and generating 44 tackles.
Lawrence was New York’s only Pro Bowl starter.
Receiver Malik Nabers was named an alternate, meaning he can punch his ticket to Orlando if Justin Jefferson, Terry McLaurin, CeeDee Lamb, or Amon-Ra St. Brown turn down the event. Edge rusher Brian Burns was also named an alternate. The two will look to put a final stamp on their 2024 season on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
