Aaron Rodgers Concerned About 'Safety' After Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes Burglaries
One of the big stories that has loomed in the background of the 2024 NFL season has been the spate of break-ins that have taken place in the homes of high-profile star players, usually when they are playing in equally high-profile games.
It happened to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. It happened, too, to his teammate, Travis Kelce, both back in October. It's also happened to NBA players Mike Conley, Bobby Portis and Karl-Anthony Towns. The news this week was that another burglary took place, this time at the home of Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow.
Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been following the developments, and says he is worried about safety of players, too. He said he has beefed up his security, especially after the outlet, the Daily Mail, revealed where he lives in New Jersey.
"It is an interesting situation that happened in Cincinnati, mostly around the call," Rodgers said Wednesday at practice. "But yeah, I think something happened in Kansas City as well. I have security, full-time, thanks to the Daily Mail for putting my (expletive) out there.
"There’s been some issues. It’s something we all think about from time to time, you know you’re kind of exposed in that way. It seems like there is a professional aspect, where they don’t care if there is an alarm set, they are going to get in, get out quickly. So hopefully it doesn’t happen anymore."
The FBI, according to reports, is invesitgating the burglaries as being linked together, perhaps the product of an international crime ring. While the FBI would not confirm that, The Athletic got hold of a memo from the NBA to players which stated that the FBI had, “connected many of the home burglaries to transnational South American Theft Groups.”
Rodgers said more players should use NFL resources for security.
"I will say this, the league has a really good resource, where they have security experts who will come out to your house and give you ideas about where to put cameras, where the weak spots are," Rodgers said.
"And I think guys in general don’t use it, because they don’t have the time or they’re thinking about other things or they’re busy playing video games or whatever it is. But there’s a lot of great resources guys should look at as far as the safety of their homes."
