Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Doesn’t Mince Words About ESPN 'Experts'

It's certainly a new era of sports media. Athletes have podcasts and regularly appear in mainstream and alternative media to promote their unique brands and interests. There was a time when fans turned to ESPN to watch games and highlights, but that's long since passed.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, an athlete appearing on an ESPN show that once was a podcast, commented that he is nostalgic for that bygone period of sports coverage.

“I’m talking about these experts on TV who nobody remembers what they did in their career. So, in order for them to stay relevant, they have to make comments that keep them in the conversation. That wasn’t going on in 2008, 2009.

"Now it’s all talk shows and people whose opinions are so important now, and they believe they’re the celebrities now, they’re the stars for just being able to talk about sports or give a take about sports, many of which are unfounded or asinine.”

With just one year remaining on his contract with the Jets, Rodgers likely has a bright future in sports media. Given the groundwork he's laid building an audience in his weekly appearances on McAfee's show, even if he's become a more divisive personality in the space, Rodgers commands an audience if a future after football interests the four-time NFL MVP.
