The NFL already has Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, and the occasional Saturday game.
Now, get ready for football on a Friday.
Amazon announced Tuesday that, starting in 2023, the NFL will play a game on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. The matchup will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video. NFL Network insider Ian Rapaport reported that the game is expected to kick off at 3 p.m. ET.
"The NFL and Amazon announced that in 2023, Prime Video will exclusively stream a 'Black Friday' game, the Friday after Thanksgiving. The first-ever NFL Black Friday game will take place on November 24, 2023 with an expected kick off of 3pm ET. Teams are TBD." -- Ian Rapaport
For many fans, Thanksgiving weekend is synonymous with football, and the NFL has long broadcast games on Thanksgiving Day. But Black Friday and the following Saturday have traditionally been reserved for college football matchups. The NFL is now muscling in on that territory.
This also marks a win for Amazon, which began streaming NFL games this season when it took over the broadcast rights for Thursday Night Football and hired legendary play-by-play man Al Michaels to call the games.
The teams for the first Black Friday matchup have not yet been determined.
