Week 7 was a rather frustrating week for many daily fantasy football players, me included. I was among those who put together lineups that posted fantasy scores, which would have dominated any other week. Unfortunately, unless you scored 170-plus points on DraftKings, you more than likely didn’t fare very well in cash contests. The DK lineup I shared last week ended up with 158 points and surprisingly, Matt Ryan was one of the key reasons to falling short as he didn’t put up the numbers everyone was anticipating against San Diego.
The FanDuel lineup played out in a similar fashion with the main difference being Blake Bortles in the role of disappointing QB. The good news is that this lineup did cash in a few 50/50 contests, but not all due to the massive amount of high scores once again.
Enough dwelling on the past and let’s move forward to an exciting Week 8, which is made even more interesting by the fact that there are SIX teams on bye.
What I will be doing in this space is sharing my top plays for the week, a value play, and most importantly a lineup or two. I will likely be focusing on cash games (50/50 and Double Up) and not GPP (tournaments, multi-player) contests. My Week 8 lineups should work in both formats.
So let’s get into my top plays, value play and lineups for Week 6 shall we? As always any questions, arguments, or glowing praise can be sent to me via Twitter @fantsychillpony.
Week 8 Top Plays
These will be my top plays of the week. These are players who I will try to have in as many lineups of mine as possible. If I can, I will use all three in one lineup. A reminder for cash games: going with an elite quarterback is typically recommended. If you opt for a value quarterback he MUST meet value for your loaded lineup to be worth it.
QB: Matt Ryan, Atlanta vs. Green Bay ($8,500 FanDuel/$7,000 DraftKings)
I know Ryan disappointed mightily last week, but he is still the league’s top fantasy QB and this week he faces a secondary that was filled with holes prior to injuries. Now the Packers have lost their top defensive backs and Julio Jones is not able to be covered by any mere mortal. This week should get Ryan right back on track.
RB: Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas vs. Philadelphia ($8,500 FanDuel/$7,200 DraftKings)
So if I were to ask you which running back has the best offensive line in the league most would answer Elliot and the Cowboys. Now if I were to ask you which team in the league has been giving up the most rushing yards this season? The Eagles would be correct as well. Sign me up for this drool-worthy matchup in cash games for sure. If you are looking to be different in GPP that would be the only way I would recommend fading Zeke this week.
WR: Mike Evans, Tampa Bay vs. Oakland ($7,900 FanDuel/$8,100 DraftKings)
Evans had a fantastic game as expected in Week 7 and now faces another vulnerable secondary. For whatever reason Evans’ price actually dropped this week, which is mind-boggling. Take advantage and use Evans with confidence.
TE: Jack Doyle, Indianapolis vs. Kansas City ($4,900 FanDuel/$3,500 DraftKings)
Doyle has become the primary tight end for Andrew Luck and has not disappointed in the least. His price elevated a bit this week, but he is still mighty cheap and will allow you to plug in some elite options elsewhere in your lineup.
Value Play of the Week
C.J. Anderson, Denver vs. San Diego ($6,700 FanDuel/$5,900 DraftKings)
The Broncos sure seemed to have found their running game on Monday night. That is great news for Anderson owners, and Devontae Booker owners are excited too. Booker’s production has only skyrocketed and even with basically an even split of the carries against Houston, both backs produced (and scored). Booker isn’t going anywhere, but neither is Anderson and for now he makes a solid affordable option with decent volume. If you really want to load up elsewhere you could go even cheaper and opt for Booker instead. The bottom line is that the Chargers’ defense is vulnerable and should be exploited by this backfield tandem.
This week I am only posting one lineup for each site. Again these are lineups that should work well, in addition to encompassing my top plays for the week in some fashion. However, I don’t recommend only using this lineup. Find values and mix it up. Making your lineup your own is more fun and challenging.
This week I constructed a lineup I will be playing in both types of games (Cash and GPP) on both sites.
