The Tennessee Titans shocked the football world Tuesday by firing Jon Robinson, who had been the team's general manager since 2016.
In her official statement on the dismissal, team owner Amy Adams Strunk asserted that Robinson wasn't up for the task of bringing the team to another level.
"I believe there is more to be done and higher aspirations to be met," she said.
The timing of the move was more than a little surprising, as Tennessee- despite consecutive losses- is almost certain to win the AFC South. Under these unusual circumstances, football fans have nothing else to do but express their astonishment.
As ESPN's Field Yates mentioned, Robinson had played a major role in the Titans becoming a perennial contender. Despite any disappointments on and off the field, this move was a stunner in aggregate.
"Jon Robinson has played a significant part in what has been one of the most consistent teams in the NFL over the past handful of seasons," Yates wrote. "Firing him is a surprise, doing so in Week 14 with Tennessee on the doorstep of another division title is downright shocking."
Until further details surrounding the dismissal are uncovered, or Robinson comes forward with his side of the story, Tuesday's development will be remembered as one of the stranger ones of the 2022 season.
