The NFL's Most Intriguing QB Battle Each Week of the Season

Whatever it's going to look like, the 2020 NFL season is fast approaching with training camps scheduled to open later this month. America needs football, and it doesn't look like the NFL is going to back down from giving us the game we love.

When you strip away all of the social drama and controversy around the league, one thing is certain: we have better athletes at every position than we've ever seen — especially at quarterback.

The 2020 NFL season is going to bless us with a mix of legends and up-and-coming superstars. We have traditional pocket passers, gunslingers, creators, innovators, and freak athletes now playing quarterback on Sundays (and Thursday and Monday nights as well). We also have six guys expected to start in Week 1 who own NFL MVP trophies and 12 who have started in Super Bowls.

It's going to be exciting and intriguing to see how some of the matchups between these signal-callers play out. Here are the most intriguing quarterback matchups for each week of the 2020 NFL regular season.

Week 1: Tom Brady vs. Drew Brees

This will be the first of two meetings in 2020 between the two legends. Both teams have elite weapons at the skill positions to go with their quarterbacks. As a result, both teams also have realistic Super Bowl aspirations.

Week 2: Cam Newton vs. Russell Wilson (SNF)

If you like watching great athletes create something out of nothing with strength and athleticism and then uncork a rocket down the field, this is the game for you. Both quarterbacks will be tested by a couple of legitimate defenses.

Week 3: Aaron Rodgers vs. Drew Brees (SNF)

These two former MVPs have given us plenty of memorable moments over the years. This very well could be the last time they face each other.

Week 4: Baker Mayfield vs. Dak Prescott

You'd be hard-pressed to find two more polarizing players in the league at the quarterback position. Both are frequently in the headlines, and many would argue that both are overrated. When they both are playing to their full potential, however, fireworks often ensue.

Week 5: Joe Burrow vs. Lamar Jackson

The No. 1 pick of the 2020 NFL Draft will lead the rebuilding Bengals into town to face one of the league's best teams — led by the reigning MVP. The scoreboard may not accurately reflect the entertainment value of this battle of Heisman Trophy winners.

Week 6: Aaron Rodgers vs. Tom Brady

I'm not sure any stadium can hold the amount of combined swagger that these two legends bring to the field. They are both fierce competitors — perhaps sometimes to a fault — and this matchup is sure to be a memorable one.

Week 7: Ben Roethlisberger vs. Lamar Jackson

This will be the first time Big Ben and Lamar face-off as NFL starters in one of the league's best rivalries. Roethlisberger will be ready to reclaim his place on the top of the AFC North mountain.

Week 8: Cam Newton vs. Josh Allen

Just when Buffalo Bills fans thought the division was theirs to lose with the departure of Tom Brady from New England, in walks another former MVP. Newton and Allen have a similar playing style, and this one will be full of drama in Western New York.

Week 9: Tua Tagovailoa vs. Kyler Murray

You are face-to-face with the future in this one, assuming the Dolphins have turned over the reins to their first-round pick by this point of the season. There may not be two quarterbacks in the league with higher ceilings than this duo. They'll both be looking to put on the type of shows they each put on in college recently.

Week 10: Lamar Jackson vs. Cam Newton (SNF)

Two players with similar talent — one coming into his prime and one who might be past it — will meet up in a game that likely has serious playoff implications.

Week 11: Kyler Murray vs. Russell Wilson (TNF)

Some may say that Murray owes his spot in the league to Wilson for helping destroy the stigma of quarterbacks less than six-feet tall. In a division that has become one of the most competitive in the league, this is going to be must-see TV.

Week 12: Patrick Mahomes vs. Tom Brady

We really don't need to say a whole lot about this one. What we can say is, this might be a Super Bowl preview in the same stadium where Super Bowl LV will take place.

Week 13: Dak Prescott vs. Lamar Jackson (TNF)

On paper, there may not be two more talented teams in the league than the Cowboys and Ravens. This is going to be a measuring-stick game for both teams and their quarterbacks.

Week 14: Patrick Mahomes vs. Tua Tagovailoa

Mahomes is the face of the league — for now. Tua has the potential to be right there with him moving forward. That journey begins here.

Week 15: Patrick Mahomes vs. Drew Brees

These two squaring off on turf, in a dome, late in the season, is perfection. And unless they meet in the Super Bowl, it could be the final time they face each other.

Week 16: Phillip Rivers vs. Ben Roethlisberger

These two came into the league together and have had successful, but different, careers. This is another matchup that may represent the last time two battle-tested veterans go head-to-head.

Week 17: Matt Ryan vs. Tom Brady

Any matchup between these two will bring back memories of "28-3." These two former MVPs will be slinging the ball all over the yard to some of the best receivers in the game, and possibly jockeying for playoff position.
