The number of undefeated teams shrunk down to two last week in the NFL as we saw several out-of-nowhere upsets and shocking score lines over the weekend. That's reset the thinking about a number of teams going into Week 6, which represents a good chance to get on the right side of the line in certain cases.
Note: All times are ET and all games are on Sunday, Oct. 13 unless otherwise noted.
Here are this week's best NFL picks against the spread:
New York Giants (2-3) at New England Patriots (5-0), 8:20 p.m. (Thurs.)
Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram, and Wayne Gallman are all out for the G-Men, who are naturally playing on the road on short rest. That’s not a great recipe for success in Foxborough for young Danny Dimes, a rookie quarterback who will face the best pass defense in the league. Plus, New York's lackluster defense will be just the cure for any offensive ills Tom Brady and company have been dealing with lately. The Pick: New England -17
Houston Texans (3-2) at Kansas City Chiefs (4-1), 1 p.m.
These two teams were on opposite ends of the spectrum last week, as the Chiefs suffered their first loss in depressing fashion while the Texans rolled. The latter team has not fared well against teams in the upper half of the league and has alternated wins and losses against the line (Texans won last week vs. the Falcons). While K.C. might have some injuries to deal with, they're also out to prove some doubters wrong and score some revenge against another AFC South squad at home. The Pick: Kansas City -4.5
New Orleans Saints (4-1) at Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3), 1 p.m.
The two backup quarterbacks involved in this one have been a revelation for both teams this season, with Minshew Mania taking hold of Duval and Teddy Bridgewater turning the Saints into perhaps the best team in the NFC. The Jags allowed a ton of yards on the ground to Carolina last week and that's not a good sign with Alvin Kamara rolling into town next. This one will be close but if you can get the Saints as a dog against a below .500 team, it's an easy play. The Pick: New Orleans +1.5
Dallas Cowboys (3-2) at New York Jets (0-4), 4:25 p.m.
Sam Darnold is finally cleared to play for the Jets and that's likely a big boost for the home side in this one, as they have looked lost without their starting quarterback. Still, this team is winless for a reason and while the offense should be better, the defense still hasn't proven they can truly stop anybody halfway decent yet. Dallas should be able to run the ball efficiently and setup some play-action passes downfield like they were earlier in the season to roll on the road. The Pick: Dallas -7
Last Week: 2-2
