NFL Rookie Quarterback, Fourth-Round Pick Could Be Making First Start This Sunday

Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots.

Another rookie quarterback might be making the first start of his NFL career this Sunday, and no we're not talking about Kenny Pickett of the Steelers.

Bailey Zappe, the New England Patriots' fourth-round pick earlier this year, could be starting for the AFC East franchise this weekend.

Brian Hoyer is on the injured reserve. Mac Jones is still recovering from a high-ankle sprain. The only other quarterback currently available for Bill Belichick and Co. is Garrett Gilbert.

Zappe performed well in his relief appearance for Hoyer last week. He could be making the first NFL start of his career on Sunday vs. the Lions.

#Patriots current QB situation: Mac Jones (high ankle sprain) - limited in practice Brian Hoyer (concussion) - IR, out at least four games Bailey Zappe - Made NFL debut four days ago Garrett Gilbert - Signed with practice squad yesterday They host the #Lions on Sunday.

During his NFL debut last Sunday, Zappe completed 66.7 percent of his throws for 99 yards and a touchdown. It was an impressive debut.

It sounds like Zappe will once again have to give it a go this weekend. That is unless Mac Jones heals up and can play.
