After a highly unusual offseason, the NFL is ready to return to the field even if Week 1 will look and feel different. Stadiums won't be filled to capacity if at all, but the games will go on and Athlon's experts are ready with their predictions and picks for every matchup this season.
The 2020 season gets started on Thursday night with defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City hosting Houston. The last time these two teams played was in January in the Divisional Round of the playoffs and the Texans saw their 24-0 lead in Arrowhead Stadium turn into a 51-31 rout by the Chiefs. Can we expect similar fireworks this time?
Even with the defending champs getting the season-opening spotlight the game everyone is looking forward to in Week 1 is Tom Brady vs. Drew Brees, otherwise known as Tampa Bay vs. New Orleans. Brady and the Buccaneers head to the Superdome to face the defending NFC South champion Saints with an encore encounter set for Week 8. And while this matchup features two of the best quarterbacks to ever play, they are from the only must-see element.
Tampa Bay-New Orleans is one of nine divisional matchups on tap for Week 1, which also has Cleveland-Baltimore, Chicago-Detroit, Green Bay-Minnesota, and Arizona-San Francisco on the docket.
Week 1's other primetime games have the Los Angeles Rams hosting Dallas in the first game played at brand-new SoFi Stadium on "Sunday Night Football." The opening week concludes with a "Monday Night Football" doubleheader — Pittsburgh at New York Giants followed by Tennessee at Denver.
So which teams will come out on top in every NFL game in Week 1? Athlon's own Rob Doster (@AthlonDoster) and Ben Weinrib (@benweinrib), along with AthlonSports.com contributor Bryan Fischer (@BryanDFischer), predict the winners for every game this week:
