NFL Predictions: Week 9 Picks for Every Game

Athlon's experts pick every winner for every game on the Week 9 slate

There are no more undefeated teams left in the NFL but the bigger story entering Week 9 just may be injuries. One of the league's biggest stars is likely to miss the rest of the season and another wave of injuries has hit the quarterback position. So how will these latest injuries impact what's on tap for Week 9?

For starters, the "Thursday Night Football" matchup finds backup quarterback Mike White going for a second straight win starting in place of an injured Zach Wilson when the Jets head to Indianapolis to face the Colts. Indy dropped a tough one in overtime at home last week against Tennessee as Carson Wentz had a couple of ill-timed turnovers.

On Sunday, a pair of divisional contests is part of the 1 p.m. ET offerings, including the Falcons at the Saints. New Orleans is coming off of a big win against Tampa Bay but will be without quarterback Jameis Winston for the rest of the season after he tore his ACL. Taysom Hill, Trevor Siemian, or a combination of the two will lead the offense in Winston's absence. New Orleans has the chance to draw even with the Buccaneers, who are on bye, in the NFC South with a win over Atlanta.

Elsewhere in the early Sunday window, the Browns and Bengals will face off with both AFC North teams looking to bounce back from disappointing losses while Dallas hosts Denver. Cooper Rush, the hero of Sunday night's win in Minnesota, could get another start depending on Dak Prescott's calf injury, while the Broncos will be moving on without linebacker Von Miller, who was traded to the Rams on Monday.

There are only three games later Sunday afternoon – Chargers at Eagles, Packers at Chiefs, and Cardinals at 49ers. Even though Kansas City is just a .500 team right now while Green Bay is tied for the best record (7-1) in the NFC, this game looks a lot different with the news on Wednesday that Aaron Rodgers has tested positive for COVID-19 and is out for Sunday.

This means that not only will Jordan Love make his first career start (in Arrowhead Stadium no less), but fans also are deprived of the opportunity to see Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes play in the same game. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have a golden opportunity to get back above. 500 at home against a depleted Packers squad.

The Cardinals will try to bounce back from that tough loss to Green Bay when they take on the 49ers in a key NFC West matchup. Everyone will be paying close attention to Kyler Murray, who suffered an ankle injury at the end of last week's loss and was spotted in a walking boot after the game.

Unfortunately, what could have been billed as a potential Super Bowl preview (in the very stadium it will be played in) between Tennessee and the Los Angeles Rams on "Sunday Night Football" has changed dramatically following the news of Titans All-Pro running back Derrick Henry's significant foot injury. Whether Henry is able to return this season remains to be seen, but the two-time defending NFL rushing champion (and who is currently leading the league by nearly 300 yards) will definitely not play this week against a Rams team that has won four in a row and adding the aforementioned Miller to their already ferocious pass rush.

Week 9 concludes with Chicago in the Steel City to take on Pittsburgh on "Monday Night Football." Rookie Justin Fields' indoctrination to the NFL will continue in prime time against one of the league's best defenses. The Steelers have won three in a row while the Bears are headed in the opposite direction.
