Notable Name Emerges For Colts' Offensive Coordinator Position

The Indianapolis Colts are searching for several coordinators to complement newly-named interim head coach Jeff Saturday.

According to a new report published this afternoon, the Colts might not have to look very far.

In a post written by NFL insider Albert Breer this afternoon, Colts' current running backs coach Scottie Montgomery is reportedly a name "to watch" for the open offensive coordinator role in Indy.

"Running backs coach Scottie Montgomery is one to watch here. Very well-respected, and interviewed for the Panthers OC job in January," Breer tweeted Monday.

Montgomery took over as running backs coach for the Colts in 2021.

Aiding Montgomery in his new position was the rise of running back Jonathan Taylor, who led the NFL in rushing last season with 1,811 yards. Under Montgomery, Indianapolis' rushing attack ranked 2nd in terms of yards per game in 2021, just behind the Philadelphia Eagles.

This year, however, Indianapolis' ground game ranks near the bottom of the NFL. Only four teams, the Steelers, Chargers, Rams, and Buccaneers, have produced less rushing yards than the Colts this season.

Montgomery has received attention for offensive coordinator positions in the past, though, with his most recent interview happening in Carolina this past January.

The Colts are hoping to snap a three-game losing streak this Sunday when Indianapolis takes on the Las Vegas Raiders.
