Panthers Are Cutting Practice Squad Quarterback This Monday

The Panthers are shaking up their quarterback depth chart following a blowout loss to the Bengals on Sunday.

Carolina is reportedly cutting quarterback Jacob Eason from the practice squad.

Eason had previously been serving as the team's third-string quarterback. However, with Sam Darnold now back in the fold the team doesn't have a need for Eason.

The Panthers released Eason on Monday.

"The #Panthers have cut S Marquise Blair and QB Jacob Eason from the practice squad. Eason wasn’t needed as the third QB with Sam Darnold back. Blair was whistled for a personal foul after a special teams play on Sunday and had already reached the three-game elevation mark," said Mike Kaye.

Jacob Eason was a five-star quarterback coming out of high school. He began his collegiate career at the University of Georgia and finished at Washington.

The Colts drafted Eason in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was eventually cut by the AFC South franchise, but wound up on the Panthers' roster eventually.

Now, the Panthers are moving on with Darnold off the injured reserve. Carolina has Darnold, PJ Walker and Baker Mayfield on the team's depth chart.
