The Carolina Panthers' 2022 season has gone from bad to nightmare.
This Monday morning, the Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule following a 1-4 start to the year.
To make matters worse for the NFC South franchise, it appears starting quarterback Baker Mayfield is going to "miss time" with an injury.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Mayfield suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Panthers' 37-15 loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
"#Panthers QB Baker Mayfield suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday’s game, sources say. That means he’ll miss time, but how much will be determined by more tests and opinions. PJ Walker in line to start at QB this week vs. the #Rams," said Rapoport.
A significant step back for Baker Mayfield and the Carolina offense.
Now, the Panthers will likely turn to backup quarterback PJ Walker.
Carolina, meanwhile, has no time to rest. It has a big game vs. the Rams of Los Angeles on Sunday.
