Panthers Won't Make Change At Kicker Despite Awful Performance Sunday

Panthers' kicker Eddy Piñeiro missed two potential game-winning kicks in Carolina's heartbreaking 37-34 loss to the Falcons Sunday.

After D.J. Moore secured a game-tying 62-yard touchdown with just seconds left in the fourth quarter, Piñeiro missed the ensuing extra point after a Moore penalty pushed back the try by 15 yards.

Then, in overtime, Piñeiro failed to convert a 32-yard field goal attempt to win the game following a Carolina interception.

Despite the kicking woes Sunday, interim Panthers head coach Steve Wilks said today that the team has no intention of bringing in other kickers to replace Piñeiro.

“One guy did not lose this football game,” said Wilks, according to a Pro Football Talk article posted this morning. The quote was sourced from Augusta Stone, a writer for the Panthers' website.

Even including the poor showing Sunday, Piñeiro has only missed two field goal attempts on the season. Additionally, the failed extra point against Atlanta was the first one Piñeiro had missed all year.

Piñeiro and the Panthers will look to rebound in Week 9 when Carolina heads to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals.
