Some quarterbacks hate the preseason, others love. Some avoid contact at all costs, others initiate it. Patrick Mahomes falls in the loves preseason, loves contact category.
In speaking with reporters this week, Mahomes revealed he wants to experience getting hit in the pocket at least once during the preseason. He explains that he needs some sort of contact to remind him of what it's like in preparation of the 2022 season.
“I like to get in there and get hit one time,” Mahomes said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN. “Once you get hit one time and kind of see what it is to get hit again as a quarterback, you’re kind of good to go.”
Andy Reid probably doesn't like that answer, but if it helps his quarterback he may allow it. As long as Patrick Mahomes avoids injury, all is well.
Mahomes is expected to get some playing time in the preseason, but it's currently unclear how much he'll play.
The Chiefs begin the preseason this Saturday vs. the Chicago Bears.
