Patrick Mahomes Reveals Chiefs Were Interested In Kadarius Toney During Off-Season

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Last Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs sent a compensatory third-round pick and 2023 sixth-round pick to the New York Giants in exchange for wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

It appears, though, that Kansas City had prior plans to make a move for Toney.

According to Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs' general manager Brett Veach was reportedly interested in acquiring Toney well before last week's trade brought the receiver to Kansas City.

"Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes revealed that GM Brett Veach was interested in trading for WR Kadarius Toney during the offseason. It didn't work out then, but Veach eventually got his guy," Herbie Teope tweeted Wednesday.

In what was a surprising trade to many around the NFL, it appears the Chiefs' decision to acquire Toney was several months in the making.

Toney, a former first round pick of the Giants in 2021, has struggled with injuries over the past year and a half, potentially prompting New York to cut ties with the talented receiver.

However, according to Chiefs' coach Andy Reid, Toney is healthy now and Kansas City looks forward to "having him in the mix."

Toney's first chance to make an impact for Kansas City will come this Sunday when the Chiefs take on the Tennessee Titans.
