Sean McVay Praises Patriots' Drake Maye: 'He Looks Like a Stud'

Since taking over for veteran Jacoby Brissett, Maye has energized the Patriots' offense with his strong arm and playmaking ability.

Drake Maye continues to turn heads in his rookie season, earning high praise from Rams head coach Sean McVay after another impressive performance on Sunday. Despite the Patriots' 28-22 loss to Los Angeles, Maye showed why New England invested in the third overall pick.

The rookie quarterback put up solid numbers, completing 30 of 40 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns, including a highlight-reel scoring strike to Kendrick Bourne. His ability to extend plays and make throws under pressure caught McVay's attention.

"You look at it, and you can really see his ability to create off-schedule," McVay said after the game. "I thought he was patient, taking some underneath check-downs where guys were able to create. We had tighter coverages, and he was able to fit the ball into tight windows."

McVay's praise didn't stop there:

"He looks like a stud... You can see just the impact that he has on his teammates, the way people talk about him here. He looks like he's going to be a special player for a long time, and he gave us fits today."

While Maye's talent is undeniable, he's still experiencing typical rookie growing pains. Two turnovers proved costly in Sunday's loss - a strip sack fumble in the second quarter and a game-ending interception on a miscommunication with receiver DeMario Douglas.

Since taking over for veteran Jacoby Brissett, Maye has energized the Patriots' offense with his strong arm and playmaking ability. He'll look to bounce back from Sunday's loss when the Patriots visit the Miami Dolphins next week.
