Peyton Manning Roasts Bill Belichick For How He's Handled Patriots' Quarterback Situation

Peyton Manning

The Manning Cast is back on Monday Night Football for this week's matchup between the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears.

Peyton Manning didn't even make it through the end of the first quarter before dropping a zinger that has made the rounds on social media.

Manning noted that the Patriots' coaching staff didn't tell him or his brother Eli whether Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe would start behind center.

He then said "I don't think they told Mac or Bailey either," a reference perhaps to both Patriots coach Bill Belichick's legendary opaqueness when it comes to injuries and the team's slow offensive start.

Jones, the Patriots' first-round draft pick in 2021, had missed the team's past three games due to a sprained ankle. Zappe played well in his absence, winning both of his starts.

The Patriots declined to name a starting quarterback entering Monday night's game, but reports out of New England consistently maintained that Jones would return to the starting lineup when healthy.

Jones indeed started Monday night. The Patriots went three-and-out on each of their first two possessions.

New England will now look to Jones to lead the team out of a 10-0 first quarter hole.
