Philadelphia Eagles Add Future Picks, Clemson RB Will Shipley in the Fourth Round
PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Eagles got off to a deferred start in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft before selecting Clemson running back Will Shipley with the 127th overall pick.
Shipley was the first offensive player added by the Eagles in the 2024 draft class after the first two days produced defenders Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Jalyx Hunt.
The Eagles started Day 3 with a couple of trades, first moving the No. 120 overall selection to Miami for a 2025 third-round pick.
In the past, GM Howie Roseman has noted that the value of future picks is something the Eagles believe is a marked inefficiency that can be manipulated positively.
Pittsburgh took South Dakota State Mason McCormick, a player of possible interest for the Eagles, with the 119th pick, and the Dolphins unutilized No. 120 to take Jaylen Wright, essentially valuing the Tennessee running back at a third-round level.
Philadelphia moved down from No. 123 to 127, flipping spots with Houston and added a 2025 fifth-round pick. The Texans used the 123rd pick to select Ohio State tight end Cade Stover.
Detroit used a 2025 third-round pick to jump up to No. 126 for British Columbia OT Giovanni Manu, an indication that Lions GM Brad Holmes believed the Eagles were headed in that direction to get Jeff Stoutalnd another high-level piece of clay.
Shipley ran for 1,182 yards for Clemson in 2022 but left the Gator Bowl last December with a non-contact left knee injury. He was able to return for his Pro Day and ran a 4.45 forty.
At 5-foot-11 and 206 pounds, Shipley would immediately project to be a backup for Saquon Barkey and Kenny Gainwell on the Eagles' depth chart.
After selecting Shipley, Roseman got back to the trade market by moving picks No. 132 and 210 to Detroit for picks 164 and 201 and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
So far, Roseman has added three picks in next year's draft - one each in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds.
