'It Sucked!' Eagles Legend Jason Kelce Turns Heads With Brotherly Comments
When former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce chose to retire following the 2023-24 season, the entire city of Brotherly Love wept at the thought of never seeing the franchise's and game's best center in history calling it a career.
The bond Kelce and the city of Philadelphia have can never be taken away. That doesn't mean his former team didn't make him uncomfortable this past week, though.
Speaking on his "New Heights" podcast with brother Travis, Jason broke down what his feelings were like watching his former team dominate his brother's Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
The 40-22 blowout win was the organization's second Super Bowl title, but Kelce's answer had many in the fanbase turning heads.
"I didn't anticipate the amount of sheer discomfort and frustration that I would have watching the game," Jason told his brother. "I thought I would just kind of be like, 'Ah, you know, I like both of these teams. Whoever wins, may the best team win.' And it just didn't turn into that."
Travis was held to just four catches for 39 yards in the blowout loss for the Chiefs. He was held in check for most of the contest and only began adding to the stat sheet when the game was completely out of reach.
Watching from the stands, Jason was left watching his brother struggle at the expense of many players who he had shared the field with for over a decade in Philadelphia.
And it left the future Hall-of-Famer incredibly uncomfortable.
"It felt like I couldn't be right," Jason said. "It felt like no matter what I said, some people were going to skew it and say I was rooting for the Eagles. Some people were going to skew it and say I was rooting for the Chiefs or Travis. It sucked."
Kelce will always be a legend in Philadelphia. Rooting for his brother at the expense of his former team shouldn't deter the love the city has for him.
That doesn't mean his comments weren't at least a little surprising, though at the very least.
