Steelers Fans Shade Mike Tomlin Over George Pickens Rumors
The Pittsburgh Steelers were eliminated from the playoffs after losing the wild-card round to the Baltimore Ravens 28-14. After the loss, some fans jumped on social media claiming it's time to move on from head coach Mike Tomlin, but the franchise seemingly wants to keep him.
Despite that, the rumor mill has Steelers fans up in arms yet again. On Tuesday, it was reported that star wideout George Pickens arrived late to the team's Christmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. The 23-year-old wide receiver was reportedly late after missing the two previous games with a hamstring injury.
"Pickens sat out the next two games with hamstring injury. When he was finally healthy, how did he respond? By showing up late for the Chirstmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Tomlin asks players to report to games at least two hours before kickoff. On Dec. 25, Pickens walked through the media entrance an hour and 25 minutes before kickoff. That was after inactie players were announced."
When asked about Pickens' tardiness, Tomlin claimed that he "can't answer definitively," as the Christmas Day game was so long ago, per NFL journalist Gregg Rosenthal. If that's the case, then the Steelers' head coach is essentially claiming he doesn't know whether or not Pickens arrived to the game late.
Tomlin's response to the Pickens rumors are seemingly rubbing Steelers fans the wrong way. Many believe that the 52-year-old head coach is lying. Meanwhile, others think that Tomlin enables this type of behavior by ignoring it.
"Excellent reporting from Mike DeFabo. George Pickens showed up late for Chiefs Christmas game. That's unacceptable. He should have been benched. Tomlin is the great enabler," claimed one individual.
One fan stated, "Hahahahhah Tomlin can't answer whether or not George Pickens was late to the Chiefs game. 'I got a lot going on pregame.' Hahahaha man [Expletive]. If your best WR isn't there 90 min before kickoff, you know it and everybody in the locker room knows it. Lie lie. All you do is lie."
"Most answers were as expected but he was definitely caught off guard by that question….wasn’t prepared with a way to say no and likely wasn’t comfortable telling the truth & saying yes…timing of that report messed him up lol," explained another fan.
This user belives, "Mike Tomlin knows he can’t make one negative remark about George Pickens, because if he does, that’s the last of Pickens as a Steeler."
"We have a coaching staff that doesn’t even show up for the games. Pickens being late is the least of our problems," said another fan.
