Predictions for Every NFL Game in Week 16

Athlon's experts pick their winners for every game, including the big NFC South rematch between New Orleans and Atlanta

NFL Picks: Aaron Donald

It’s Week 16 in the NFL and with Christmas just around the corner, several teams are hoping to find a playoff berth gift-wrapped for them under the tree. Five teams (New England, Pittsburgh and Jacksonville in the AFC; Philadelphia and Minnesota in the NFC) have already punched their postseason ticket and several others could join them depending on how things transpire this week.

There are two games on Saturday and while Minnesota-Green Bay lost some of its luster with the Packers eliminated from playoff contention (and Aaron Rodgers going back on injured reserve), the Vikings can sew up a first-round bye with a win (or some help from other teams).

Arguably the most important game on the slate is Atlanta paying a visit to New Orleans. The Falcons are building some momentum with back-to-back victories, including one in Week 14 against the Saints, and can clinch a playoff berth with a season sweep of their NFC South rivals. Meanwhile, New Orleans can not only draw even with Atlanta with a win at home, the Saints also can clinch the division title with a victory and a loss by Carolina. The Panthers are hosting struggling Tampa Bay and can secure one of the wild-card berths with a victory.

Other AFC teams that have a chance clinch a playoff spot this week are Kansas City (will win the AFC West with a victory vs. Miami) and Tennessee (win vs. Los Angeles Rams as well as losses by Baltimore and Buffalo). In the NFC, the Los Angeles Rams can put an exclamation point on their impressive turnaround as a win in Nashville or loss or tie by Seattle (see below) will put a bow on the NFC West for Aaron Donald (above, right) and company.

Another game full of playoff implications is Dallas’ Christmas Eve visit to aforementioned Seattle. The Cowboys and Seahawks are a game behind Atlanta for the second wild card so whichever team loses will be eliminated from the hunt.

The Week 16 action concludes with a Christmas Day doubleheader that will see Pittsburgh play in Houston with a chance to secure a first-round bye with a win (or a Jacksonville loss), while Philadelphia can clinch home-field advantage in the NFC with a victory over the Raiders.
