Five weeks into the NFL season and parity is on full display. More than half of the teams (21 to be exact) are either a game above, at or a game below .500. There are a few teams who have separated themselves from this pack, namely undefeated Kansas City, and there are three teams – Cleveland, New York Giants, San Francisco – that are still without a win.
So will any of these four outliers experience something different in Week 6? The Chiefs host a Steelers team searching for answers following a humbling 30-9 loss at home to the Jaguars last week. The Browns are in Houston to face the Texans, who have found their franchise quarterback in Deshaun Watson but will be without two of their defensive anchors – J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus – for the rest of the season.
The Giants head to Denver to take on the Broncos. New York is a disappointing 0-5 and after losing Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall to season-ending injuries a matchup with one of the league’s toughest defenses coming off of a is not what Eli Manning and the Giants need.
Lastly, the 49ers head cross country for a matchup with a Redskins team also coming off of a bye. Not exactly ideal scenarios for the three winless teams.
The Week 6 slate kicks off Thursday night with an intriguing matchup of first-place teams as Carolina hosts Philadelphia. The Panthers have posted impressive back-to-back road wins against the Patriots and Lions while the Eagles have won three in a row including last week’s 34-7 domination of the Cardinals.
Other games of note include some divisional pairings – Packers vs. Vikings, Patriots vs. Jets, Chargers vs. Raiders, and Colts vs. Titans – as well as the Lions in New Orleans to face the Saints and the Rams in Jacksonville for an intriguing matchup with the aforementioned Jags.
