Rams Reportedly Turned Down Multiple Trade Offers For Cam Akers

Running Back Rankings Week 16: Cam Akers

Despite the fact that a record number of deals were struck before the NFL trade deadline hit on Tuesday, a few players who were rumored to be on the move stuck with their original teams.

One of those was Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers.

Akers was widely expected to be traded after the Rams held him out of their past two games and head coach Sean McVay said the team was trying to find Akers a new home.

Yet Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported Wednesday that the Rams actually turned down multiple trade offers for Akers and are hoping the third-year back will return to the team for the remainder of this season.

"The Rams turned down multiple offers for RB Cam Akers before Tuesday's trade deadline and now are working with Akers' agent in hopes he'll play for them again this season, per sources," Pelissero reported. "Akers has been inactive the past two games for what the team called personal reasons."

Pelissero did not indicate whether Akers would be open to rejoining the Rams. Akers made a social media post Tuesday that simply said "I miss football."

The Rams offense as a whole and Akers in particular have struggled to get going on the ground this season.

Akers has averaged less than three yards per carry and scored just one touchdown in five games. As a team, the Rams rank No. 31 in the NFL in both rushing yardage per game and yards per carry.

Perhaps the return of Akers from his absence and rookie Kyren Williams from the injured reserve will be enough to change that in the near future. Rams fans will certainly hope so.
