Robert Griffin III Sends Clear Message To NFL Concerning Roughing The Passer

Calls for the NFL to reform its roughing the passer rules continue to get louder.

Even former quarterbacks are now taking the side of defenders.

After a pair of questionable roughing the passer flags during the Monday Night Football game between the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers, Robert Griffin III tweeted that the NFL should make roughing the passer penalties reviewable.

The flag Griffin reacted to was called on Broncos outside linebacker Bradley Chubb. That came just a quarter after another questionable call on Chargers defensive end Morgan Fox.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current Monday Night Football color commentator Troy Aikman joined Griffin in disagreeing with both the flag on Chubb and Fox.

Griffin and Aikman are far from alone in speaking out about roughing the passer calls of late. A pair of flags in Week Five prompted widespread indignation. Still, the NFL has announced that it has no plans to change its rules about how it protects quarterbacks.
