Robert Kraft Reveals Wish For Tom Brady
Tom Brady officially ended his legendary NFL career on Wednesday, retiring from the league after 23 seasons.
While Brady's final three years were spent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he spent the majority of his career at the helm of a dynastic run by the New England Patriots.
The Patriots' owner, Robert Kraft, would like him to end his career with the franchise, as well.
During an interview with CNN on Thursday, Kraft said he would like for Brady to sign a one-day contract with the New England Patriots so that he could retire as a member of the franchise. The ceremonial move has been a popular one in recent years for players to reunite with the team where they played most of their career prior to retiring.
"I'd do it tomorrow," Kraft said. "Not only do I want it, our fans are clamoring for it, and to us, he always has been and always will be a Patriot. ... We'll do everything we can in our power to bring him back, sign off as a Patriot and find ways to honor him for many years to come. He did so much to bring life and good cheer to our community and he's a beloved figure and he's earned the respect and love that people feel for him like no other athlete in our town, and we've had some great ones."
Brady spent 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, 18 as the team's starting quarterback. During that time, the team advanced to nine Super Bowls and won six of them. No surprise, Brady owns virtually every Patriots franchise record for passing stats and winning.
Brady has not given an indication that he plans to end his career as a member of the Patriots, nor did he do so a year ago, when he initially announced his plans to retire only to reverse his decision a little more than a month later and return to the Bucs.
Perhaps Kraft's plea will change his mind.
