The New Orleans Saints are making a couple of significant roster moves this Thursday afternoon. The NFC South franchise has signed second-year NFL quarterback K.J. Costello, resulting in the release of a veteran.
The Saints have reportedly released veteran defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson. The 28-year-old is now a free agent and is bound to find a new home ahead of the 2022 season.
In five NFL seasons, Johnson has 110 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He's played in 65 games, made 20 starts and spent time with the Vikings and Texans.
"The Saints have released veteran DT Jaleel Johnson. They’ve also signed QB K.J. Costello with Jameis Winston currently a bit banged up," said Field Yates.
The Saints, meanwhile, add K.J. Costello to a quarterback room that features Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton and Ian Book. Winston is currently out with a foot injury, so Costello should be able to provide some help during practice.
Johnson, meanwhile, is headed to the free-agent market.
