Saints Make Official Decision On Andy Dalton vs. Jameis Winston Quarterback Battle

Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton

The New Orleans Saints have named their starting quarterback for this week's matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, as well as perhaps the rest of the season.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen announced that Andy Dalton will start behind center on Sunday.

That's despite Jameis Winston practicing in full on Wednesday.

Winston started the first three games of the season for the Saints before he was sidelined by back and ankle injuries. Dalton then took over, and Allen and his staff have been impressed enough that they're sticking with him behind center even though Winston is healthy again.

Dalton has completed 63.4 percent of his passes and thrown seven touchdowns versus four interceptions in his four starts.

He threw three interceptions in the Saints' last game, a 42-34 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football, including two pick-sixes on consecutive drives. But he also threw for four scores during the game.

Winston, on the other hand, completed 64.5 percent of throws with four touchdowns and five interceptions. Each quarterback has led the team to one win.

The situation could always change based on how Dalton performs. But it looks as if the Red Rocket is locked in as the Saints' starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
