The San Francisco 49ers are in desperate need of better quarterback depth. Trey Lance is out for the year with a season-ending injury. Now, the team is left with Jimmy Garoppolo and Brock Purdy.

The 49ers are adding depth at the quarterback position this Tuesday afternoon. The NFC West franchise is signing veteran quarterback Kurt Benkert.

Benkert is one of four quarterbacks who worked out for the Niners today. He was joined by AJ McCarron, Garrett Gilbert and Kevin Hogan. Benkert was clearly the most impressive of the bunch.

He's getting a new opportunity in the Bay Area.

"The #49ers are signing veteran QB Kurt Benkert to their practice squad, source says. Former #Falcons and #Packers quarterback finds a new home following today’s workout," said Mike Garafolo.

Benkert now joins a quarterback room that features Jimmy Garoppolo and Brock Purdy.

Garoppolo has once again been handed the reins to the 49ers' offense with Lance out with an injury. The team looked like a real contender with the veteran under center on Sunday.

San Francisco plays the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
