San Francisco 49ers Cut Former First-Round Draft Pick On Tuesday

This Tuesday afternoon, the San Francisco 49ers are parting ways with a former first-round NFL Draft pick. That player is none other than veteran defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche.

The 49ers are releasing defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche to get down to the roster limit of 85 players. The former first-round pick out of Ole Miss once again has to try and find a new home. It's possible he ends up on the Niners' practice squad.

"The #49ers have released DL Robert Nkemdiche," the 49ers announced.

Robert Nkemdiche was the 29th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He started just six games for the NFC West franchise before spending a season in Miami in 2019 and one in Seattle in 2021. He has just 59 tackles in his career.

The defensive tackle spot is not a position of need for the 49ers; it's a strength. Led by Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw, the San Francisco front seven should be one of the best in the NFL this upcoming season.
