San Francisco 49ers Make Official Decision On Running Back Elijah Mitchell

Elijah Mitchell, San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers' 2022 season opener was an ugly one. The NFC West franchise lost its Week 1 game to the Bears in Chicago. To make matters worse, the team's starting running back is going on the injured reserve.

The San Francisco 49ers are officially placing starting running back Elijah Mitchell on the injured reserve. He will miss the next several weeks with a knee injury.

Awful injury luck for Mitchell, who hasn't been able to play a full season yet in his NFL career. The 49ers will likely now turn to Deebo Samuel to carry the rock.

"The San Francisco 49ers announced that they have promoted S Tashaun Gipson Sr. to the active roster from the team's practice squad. In order to make room on the roster, the team placed RB Elijah Mitchell on the Injured Reserve List. The team also signed OL Keith Ismael to the team's practice squad and released OL Keaton Sutherland and WR Connor Wedington," the 49ers announced.

Deebo Samuel's workload is about to see a big jump. He got several carries after Mitchell exited Sunday's game with an injury.

The 49ers are also signing Marlon Mack to help bolster their running back depth.
