San Francisco 49ers Star's Week 1 Status In Jeopardy After Missing Thursday's Practice

The San Francisco 49ers offense may not be at full strength when they open the 2022 season on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Star tight end George Kittle was not present at practice on Thursday.

Kittle, 28, is dealing with a groin injury. It's not believed to be serious, but the 49ers are taking every precaution necessary to ensure it's a short-term injury. With that being said, Kittle's status for Week 1 is certainly in jeopardy.

Typically if a player misses a Thursday practice he won't be playing on Sunday, unless it's a serious game. Considering it's so early in the 2022 season, the 49ers will likely keep him out of the action.

"No George Kittle (groin) at the start of Thursday’s 49ers practice. That typically translates into an 'unlikely to play this weekend' — especially since this is just Week 1," said David Lombardi.

This isn't good timing, especially considering the 49ers are ushering in new starting quarterback Trey Lance this weekend. Without George Kittle in the lineup the San Francisco offense simply isn't as good.

The Niners may employ a heaving rushing attack when they take on the Bears in Chicago this Sunday afternoon.
