The Seattle Seahawks have announced the release of a former second-round pick this Tuesday.
Hidden among the excitement stemming from today's NFL trade deadline, Ari Meirov reported that Seattle has cut wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside and signed receiver Laquon Treadwell to the team's practice squad.
"The #Seahawks released WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside and signed WR Laquon Treadwell to the practice squad," Meirov tweeted Tuesday afternoon.
Arcega-Whiteside was traded to Seattle this offseason but failed to crack the Seahawks' 53-man roster through eight games in 2022.
Replacing the former 2019 second-round pick on Seattle's practice squad is Laquon Treadwell, the 23rd overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.
While neither player has seen regular season action this year, Treadwell put up the best season of his career in 2021 with Jacksonville. Compared to Arcega-Whiteside's two catches for 36 yards a year ago, Treadwell tallied 33 receptions for 434 yards and one touchdown.
If Treadwell is promoted to the active roster this week, he'll hope to make an impact for Seattle as the Seahawks take on the Arizona Cardinals Sunday.
