State of Florida Honors Buccaneers Star With Special Announcement
Ron DeSantis, in an act as Governor of the state of Florida, made a special announcement on Friday to honor Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans.
Noting his "eleventh-straight 1,000-yard season, tying the current record for the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in NFL history" and celebrating "Mike Evans for his profound dedication to the sport of football, making countless memories for fans across the Sunshine state and across the country," January 10th, 2025 was declared Mike Evans Day.
The 31-year-old receiver finished the 2024 regular season in spectacular fashion by going over 1,000 yards on the final play of their Week 18 win over the New Orleans Saints.
Last week, Tampa Bay shared a behind-the-scenes video of Evans breaking the record and celebrating with teammates and coaches as he walked into the Buccaneers' locker room.
Evans, Tampa Bay's first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, has spent all of his 11 seasons with the Buccaneers. His 12,684 receiving yards rank 24th all-time and his 105 career touchdown receptions rank ninth-most.
Evans is a Super Bowl LV champ, a two-time second-team All-Pro and a five-time Pro Bowler. He is Tampa Bay's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Washington Commanders in the NFC's wild-card round on January 12.
