Tom Brady Absent At Practice, Reportedly Won't Return Until Late August

During training camp, every team in the NFL is trying to develop chemistry and form the strongest roster. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers may be a work in progress here over the next few weeks.

Veteran quarterback Tom Brady is going to miss a significant amount of practice time moving forward due to "personal reasons." This isn't a one- or two-day absence, either.

"#Bucs QB Tom Brady is not at practice today for personal, non-football reasons. Coach Todd Bowles will discuss it after practice, but my understanding is he won't be present for a few days," said Ian Rapoport.

Todd Bowles told reporters this Thursday morning that Brady isn't expected to return to the team until after a preseason game on Aug. 20. Even then, it's still unclear when his exact return date is.

"Coach Todd Bowles said Tom Brady won’t be back until after the #Titans preseason game, which is on Aug 20," Rapoport added.

We certainly hope everything's okay in the Brady family and household. We wish him the best during his leave of absence.

From a football perspective, this is a significant development. Tom Brady doesn't necessarily need the extra work in practice, but his teammates need time to develop chemistry with the veteran. It's also worth noting the team's offensive line is in a major re-working following a few big injuries to key veterans.

Blaine Gabbert will now run the first-team offense while Kyle Trask takes care of the backups.
