Washington Commanders Release Official Statement To Address Carson Wentz's Injury

Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz

This Monday evening the Washington Commanders released an official statement to address Carson Wentz's injury.

Wentz suffered a fractured ring finger during the team's 12-7 win over the Bears of Chicago last Thursday night.

The Commanders announced just moments ago that Wentz underwent successful surgery in Los Angeles today.

It's still unclear if the Commanders will place Wentz on the injured reserve.

"QB Carson Wentz suffered a fractured finger on his throwing hand this past Thursday night in Chicago," the team announced. "He underwent successful surgery today in Los Angeles by hand specialist Dr. Steven Shin at the Cedards-Sinai Kerlan Jobe Surgery Center. He will immediately begin rehab and is expected to make a full recovery."

The Commanders, in the meantime, are expected to hand the reins over to backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke.

However, some fans are calling on head coach Ron Rivera to give rookie quarterback Sam Howell a chance.

The Commanders are 2-4 on the season. They get back to work this Sunday vs. the Green Bay Packers.
