Widow of Ex-Commanders Quarterback Dwayne Haskins Makes Decision About Lawsuit
Kalabyra Haskins, widow of the late Washington Commanders quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr., has dropped the wrongful death lawsuit she’d filed against over a dozen people and business entities in regard to his tragic death, USA Today reported on Thursday.
Kalabyra Haskins' lawyer said the suit was dropped after she reached a "series of settlements," including with the driver and owners of the dump truck that struck and killed her husband on a Florida interstate in 2022.
Washington selected Haskins 15th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft after a sterling season at Ohio State in which was named Big Ten MVP for throwing for 50 touchdowns and rushing for four more in leading the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record. He went only 3-10 as the starter in Washington and was released in 2020 after concerns about his work ethic went public.
Haskins signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 and was in Florida working out in advance of the 2022 season when he was killed. A toxicology report revealed that Haskins had a blood alcohol level of 0.24 — three times the legal limit in Florida — and he also tested positive for drugs that included ketamine, methamphetamine, oxymorphone and norketamine.
Kalabyra Haskins contended in her lawsuit that her husband was drugged, robbed and extorted before being struck by a dump truck while standing on I-595. She faces a lawsuit related to his ashes that was filed by Haskins' family last month.
