What's Zeke's Secret? Dallas Cowboys Reveal Shocking Truth About Ezekiel Elliott Punishment

A nasty wrinkle to the Ezekiel Elliiott "discipline'' as NFL Network reveals, "according to a number of sources, has been distracted this season. Aside from habitual tardiness, he’s missed three team meetings, with Friday’s meeting the final straw.''

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have made a "final'' decision for the week on Ezekiel Elliott ... and maybe the "final'' is about to be more permanent than that.

Elliott, we know, has recently been less than pleased about his role. And in the last eight days, it was starting to look like he did not have one.

As the Cowboys jetted to Atlanta on Saturday, the faded two-time NFL rushing champion was not traveling with the team … and was left back in Frisco for what multiple reports are terming “disciplinary reasons.”

Dallas is 3-4 and has the league’s worst rushing attack, with Elliott playing a key role.

So what happened? What's Zeke's shocking secret? In this matchup with the Falcons on Sunday, the club made the decision to go with Rico Dowdle and Dalvin Cook (another veteran just called up from the practice squad today for the second time today) as the featured backs.

And moreover, when Elliott was informed of the move, he did not act positively, leading to the team decided that in addition to being inactive against the Falcons, he would be left off the traveling group due to "disciplinary reasons."

Dallas has tried to spin this as a "mutual decision,'' but that's a bit deceiving; staying home might've been a "mutual decision,'' but leaving the proud two-time NFL rushing champ in street clothes was surely not.

And now NFL Network is adding another nasty wrinkle, with Jane Slater reporting that Elliiott, "according to a number of sources, has been distracted this season. Aside from habitual tardiness, he’s missed three team meetings, with Friday’s meeting the final straw.''

Elliott was dumped by Dallas a year ago due to both his bloated contract and his decline in play. He was re-signed this spring in a cheap ‘“feel-good” move, a one-year deal worth a max of $3 million.

Bottom line: Elliott wanted more playing time. The Cowboys offered less. The team leader did not respond the way his bosses would've liked ... and now, maybe with this "final straw,'' they won't be Zeke's bosses for much longer.
